EIB financing framework for Ren-Gas projects increased to EUR 680 million
The European Investment Bank (EIB) has increased its framework financing mandate for Nordic Ren-Gas’s (Ren-Gas) projects to 680 million from previous 230 million framework. The framework is designed to provide project level financing for Ren-Gas’s portfolio of e-methane projects in Finland, including its first Tampere project which is targeted to start construction during Q4 2026.
EIB board of directors have approved a framework increase for up to 680 million of debt financing for Ren-Gas’s e-methane production portfolio. For Ren-Gas, the decision comes at important stage as the company works to accelerate execution pathway across its project portfolio.
Ren-Gas is a leading Finnish green hydrogen and e-methane project developer. The company has a decentralized e-methane project portfolio, consisting of six production plant projects in Finland. The projects have been designed in close collaboration with local energy utilities to enable effective sector integration and use of the existing infrastructure.
Ren-Gas has pioneered the e-methane value chain development and thus is among the first companies that has secured long-term contracts for the green hydrogen and heat from the projects. The guaranteed offtake agreements form the foundation for the project financing for the Ren-Gas projects and the value chain development is crucial for the broader European green transition.
”This is an important milestone for us and the industry, providing evidence that you can create bankable green hydrogen projects and attract financing partners for them. We are grateful for the trust shown by EIB towards our project portfolio execution and business model”, says Ren-Gas CFO, Juhani Häyrinen.

Nordic Ren-Gas Oy is Europe’s leading e-methane producer, building a distributed renewable e-methane production network in Finland. The company develops RFNBO-compliant e-methane projects that convert renewable hydrogen and captured biogenic CO₂ into renewable gas for heavy transport, maritime and other hard-to-abate sectors. Its sector-integrated model — combining competitive Finnish renewable electricity, proven methanation technology and district heating coupling — enables cost-competitive, very low-carbon e-methane production at scale. Ren-Gas has several fully permitted e-methane production projects in its portfolio.
